So, as I was saying the other day, I really am sorry about disappearing for a few weeks there without much of an explanation. The problem was this: The project I was working on was literally taking up every moment that wasn't already spoken for, but I couldn't discuss it here on the site. (Those of you who e-mailed got an answer ... sort of.)
Anyway, if you're curious about the project, it's now online, though still in beta form. (There are still a few kinks -- spacing issues, mostly -- to work out before we officially go live.) Just travel to a URL like winiowa.com, or wingeorgia.com, or winmichigan.com, and you'll find it. The 51 new sites (the states plus DC) are all bound together by a common backend that was designed to allow local folks to organize themselves and create their own content -- in essence, providing a Get Local tool of sorts for John Edwards supporters just as the campaign is about to kick into high-gear.
Mike Kasper of Edwards for Prez (no link because the site now forwards to the main Win with Edwards page, just as Edwards Grassroots eventually will -- once a few seemingly intractable server issues get worked out) conceived of the project and has shepherded it though to (almost) completion like a pro. He and the indispensable Golda Velez of Arizona made all this happen and deserve all the credit; conversely, any errors, omissions, etc. can undoubtedly be attributed to my own modest efforts.
So, now that that's just about finished, it's time to get back to blogging. And I think I'll get started with a few choice words for a certain former governor who recently had the temerity to suggest that people like me -- people who've spent their entire lives fighting for Democrats and Democratic values -- are really nothing more than Republican fellow travelers.
As Winston Churchill once memorably said, "Ain't that some #&$@?"
More on Howard Dean's apparent declaration of war on millions of loyal Democrats later.
UPDATE: Server problem solved.
